Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday visited Vrindavan to open the religious monument called Kanha Bhakti Stambh in the Krishna temple town of Mathura district. It was also an occasion to launch 229 development projects in the region with an investment of Rs 1051 crore.

Among the dignitaries at the event was BJP MP and actor Hema Malini. During the event, Adityanath met with kids and attended the foundation stone laying programme along with others.

Mathura and Vrindavan are among the most visited religious places in North India with millions of pilgrims visiting the places each year. Over the past few years the Braj area (including the two towns) has been in the spotlight for upgrades to its infrastructure. The 229 projects that were launched Thursday span a wide variety of sectors, but specifics of each project were not immediately available.

The Kanha Bhakti Stambh inauguration comes on the heels of a series of religious and cultural initiatives supported by the state government in the Braj corridor. The move comes in the wake of enhancing facilities for pilgrims, as well as local economies associated with religious tourism, officials said.
