The Uttar Pradesh government has released about ₹1,200 crore (₹1,204 crore) for land acquisition for a new 74.3-km greenfield expressway. The road will connect the Ganga Expressway with the Yamuna Expressway and give the Ganga Expressway a direct link to the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar.

The funds were released by the state's Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department with the Governor's approval, on a proposal from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The allocation is for the 2025-26 financial year and covers land within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area.

Route at a glance

  1. Length: 74.3 km, access-controlled greenfield expressway
  2. Starts: At the 44.3 km mark of the Ganga Expressway, near Syana in Bulandshahr
  3. Ends: Joins the Yamuna Expressway at the 24.8 km mark, near YEIDA Sector 21 (Film City)
  4. Within YEIDA area: About 20 km, including a roughly 9-km elevated section
  5. Estimated total cost: About ₹4,000 crore

Land acquisition

Land will be acquired from 56 villages in two districts: 16 in Gautam Budh Nagar and the rest in Bulandshahr, across the Khurja, Syana and Shikarpur tehsils. YEIDA will acquire land in its notified area, and the Bulandshahr district administration will handle the rest. The land will then be handed to UPEIDA, the nodal agency for design, tendering and construction.

The plans also include a 24-metre service road in Yamuna City, two road overbridges and several underpasses.

What it means for the region

According to the reports, the corridor will ease travel for commuters from Meerut, Bulandshahr, Khurja and Syana, and reduce congestion in Yamuna City's industrial sectors. It will also support cargo movement to Noida International Airport. Through the Yamuna Expressway, the Ganga Expressway corridor will gain better access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Agra–Greater Noida stretch.

For the Hapur–Garhmukteshwar belt, the link starts close by. The Hapur IMLC site sits at Km 54 of the Ganga Expressway, about 10 km further along from the junction near Syana.

No construction start date or completion timeline has been announced.
